This is just a page for random things that I feel like adding. The first thing I'm going to add, is stuff about what I was thinking when I named each of the Sims, and the meanings and stuff. I'm into etymology, what can I say? =D
Also this is going to be a little bit of a family tree page. I dunno. Just random stuff.
There aren't going to be pictures just yet, because I'm going to do up some neat ones later when I have more time, but I assure you they will be here at some point.
---------------------------------
Sean Parodi
Normally, Sean is a masculine name. However, I've heard Shawn used as a female name, so I figured since I was going to be Sean if I was a boy, I would use Sean as my Simself's name. Sean means God is gracious, and is an Irish name, which fits since I'm, like.. half Irish myself.
Parodi however, is Italian, and is the name of a village near Genoa, and is the 117th most popular Italian surname.
My reasoning for giving her the surname Parodi, is because my surname starts with Pa, and because 'Parodi' is close to parody, and she's like a parody of myself.
Estiu Calent
This one, I gotta admit, is not an actual name. I made it up, using Yobombo translator on Facebook. The language I used was Catalan, though I tried a lot of different ones. Her name means Hot Summer, and I really don't remember why I named her hot summer. But at the time I thought it fit, and it looks really cool as a name, so why not?
------------------------------------
Deirdre Parodi
The naming theme for this generation was names I've told myself I would name my children when I had them, or would like to possibly name my children. (Which I said I'd start having when I was twenty-one, hah, one year too late for that!)
I've wanted to name my first daughter Deirdre since I read a book when I was about twelve or so, and the main girl was named Deirdre. The meaning of the name is unknown, but it is a form of the Gaelic Derdriu. The meaning might be 'woman', though. Like Sean, it is Irish; it is also in Irish mythology.
Naomi Parodi
This name, Naomi, I haven't wanted to have as a name for as long as Deirdre, but in one of my cousin and my stories, my character had twins named Rhett and Naomi. Hahaha, she's always a twin it seems. This name is Hebrew, English, and Japanese. The English and Hebrew version means 'pleasantness', and the Japanese version means 'honest/straight and beautiful'.
Lyric Parodi
I have to admit, her name was a complete glitch on my part. I knew there was a name I liked that sounded like it, and I thought that Lyric was it, but only about an hour after I named her I realized.. Lyric was one of my cousins' favorite names, not mine. What I'd been thinking of was Lycoris, which means twilight. Oops. But I can always name a Parodi down the line Lycoris, right? I'm sure most of you know what Lyric is named after; lyrics of a song.
Rhett Parodi
Strangely, I didn't get the name Rhett from 'Gone with the Wind'. Nope, nope.. several years ago, like when I was ten or so, my Mom brought me a baby book that was falling apart (she works at a library, and they get on her about making sure all the books look new), and had 30,001 names in it. That's where I found the name Rhett and it's stuck ever since. Like I said, I had twin characters named Rhett and Naomi, and so I had to name Sean's boy Rhett. Rhett means 'advice, counsel'.
Anthony Parodi
Feliks came first, but Anthony is older so I figured I'd mention him first. His name is also from the stories that my cousin and I were writing, but he's from the first story we wrote together. The name Anthony is English, and I'm not entirely sure on the meaning. There is a lot of historical stuff on it, but I'm not going to write that down.
Feliks Parodi
Feliks is another character of mine, but instead of in my cousin and my stories, he's from my best friend and my stories. The character is from a thousand years in the future, in a world/time kind of like the Xenosaga PS2 games. His name, naturally, is another spelling of Felix; specifically, the Russian, Slovene, and Polish spelling. It means 'lucky, successful', and if his large family in my game is any indication, it worked.
-----------------------------------------
Drazen Parodi
This generation has a naming theme, too, and it's just as random as the last one. Mainly, the theme is to ask my best friend for a letter, and whatever letter she gives me, that's the first letter of the new baby's name. The sub-theme is not-every-day names, because really, I didn't picture Lyric and Elvira as the 'regular' name types.
Drazen came about because it's been a recent name obsession, and when my best friend gave me the letter D, I spazzed out and used it. It's Croatian, and means 'precious'. It really fits for a firstborn, doesn't it?
Dahlia Parodi
This one, I gotta admit.. I didn't ask my best friend for a letter on her, I just used the D she gave me for Drazen, because I adore the name Dahlia. My obsession started when the movie, the Black Dahlia, came out. I just adore it as a name. It's a modern English name, and naturally, it is for the flower.
Zachariah Parodi
So, my best friend gave me a Z, and I went with the first name that popped into my head. It's not really that unusual, but I didn't want to go too abnormal, and Z names can get pretty weird. Zachariah is also named for one of my characters, but he's a character I use mostly for roleplaying on Gaiaonline. There was actually an original Zach, as well as an original Jere, from before my game got reset, and he had Elvira's hair color and Buster's eye color. I liked him better then, because I wanted that red hair. The name, Zachariah, is English and Biblical, and means 'Yahweh remembers'.
Jeremiel Parodi
My best friend gave me a J, and I didn't know what to do with it that would go with Z, until I saw Jeremiel. The original Jeremiel was nearly identical to this Jere, except his eyes were light yellow. I have no idea where he got them, but I loved them. But I love his light blue, too, so ah well. This name is also Biblical, and means 'God uplifts'.
Quintus Parodi
When my best friend gave me the Q, I almost told her to give me a new one. All the Q names were either ridiculous or common, until I saw Quintus. Or, more specifically, the meaning of Quintus. It's an Ancient Roman name for 'fifth', and is traditionally given to the fifth child, and wouldn't you know it? He was their fifth! So I went with it, and I think it fits him. I call him Quin more often than his full name, though, but hey, all three of the triplets have four letter nicknames this way.
Eulalie Parodi
This name was completely and totally of my own accord. Eulalie's name theme is different than the others, because the first time around, before things got erased, Elvira and Lyric's second honeymoon was in France; I had a plot in my head, because they wanted another child and Elvira wanted a daughter, so I decided to have them adopt 'a little French girl'. I loved the original Eulalie, so I decided that their second little girl would be named Eulalie. Naturally, it's a French name, and a form of 'Eulalia', which means 'to talk well'. It's one of those names I've always loved.
Aeron Parodi
These twins I did like with Drazen and Dahlia, and just gave them the same letter that my best friend gave me. Aeron is a Welsh name, and it means 'berry'. It is also in Welsh mythology, but I really didn't have much of a naming theme with these two except.. I didn't want them to be regular either.
Aneirin Parodi
Aneirin's name gave me the most difficulty out of all of them. I wanted it to match his brother's, with the A and the Welsh, but I liked most of the Welsh A names. So, I grabbed Aneirin, Afon, Alun, and Alwyn and asked my best friend to tell me which one she liked best and which went with Aeron best. Aneirin possibly means 'noble', so their names really don't go together meaning-wise, but they sound good as twin names.
-----------------------------------------
Amy Parodi
Okay, so I didn't actually name her, so I suppose her name doesn't belong in here. But this is also for meanings, and I wanted to look up the meaning of Amy. It's the English form of the French name Amee, the meaning of which being "beloved". I would write more than that, but since I didn't name her, I don't have any story about how I got it.
Rosella Parodi
This generation has much more of a theme than the last two generations, and if you're a big bird person, you'll spot it. I was trying to think of a good naming theme the entire time that Dahlia was pregnant with Rosella and Wren, and it came to me - the breeds of birds would make really pretty names. So, when Dahlia went into labor, I quickly paused it and headed off to find a list of bird breeds - and I found one! The first breed I found was the Mealy Rosella, and I loved the name Rosella as soon as I saw it. I found out later that my great Aunt Rosie - who's always called me Billy-Joe 'cause I look like my Dad, Bill - real name is Rosella. So, that's really neat. As a name, Rosella is Italian, and a form of Rosa.
Wren Parodi
As soon as I decided on Rosella, I decided that her twin should have a name with an R sound, too. I didn't even have to look very long before I found the Marsh Wren (no link for this one), and liked the idea of Rosella and Wren as twin names. They just flow well together, and I thought they sounded like names that Dahlia would choose. I looked up Wren as a name, and it's English, but doesn't have any meaning other than it being for the small songbird.
Eider Parodi
Unlike what Dahlia said in the chapter that she was pregnant with Wren and Rosella, the name Eider wasn't decided until he was born. In fact, it took forever for me to choose a name that sounded like a name and was a bird breed (and wasn't feminine). Then, I finally came across Eider in the E section - it's a large form of sea duck. Funny that he's hydrophobic, haha! I looked it up as a name, and it's Basque, and actually a feminine version of Eder.. and Eder means "handsome, beautiful", which fits. All of Dahlia and Marcelo's kids are handsome and beautiful.
Dove Parodi
This one was much, much easier than Eider. I saw Dove on the list on the side, with a link. So, I pretty much knew I was going to name her Dove before I knew what I was going to name Eider, and I hoped she was going to be a girl so I could name her as such - she satisfied my wish! Hey, and here I thought I was supposed to satisfy their wishes. Hee. Anyway, I looked it up as a name, and it's English, but like Wren it just means that it's after a bird.
Finch Parodi
I don't know what was so much easier about naming Finch than Eider, but for some reason, this time all I had to do was open up the page and see Finch underneath Dove on the side, and I knew immediately he was a Finch. Partially, because when I was a kid I owned some finches, and I loved those birds. The funny thing is, he reminds me of a character of mine, Fitz.. Finch, Fitz, Finch, Fitz... anyway. I looked it up as a name, and it isn't usually a name. I like it as a name, though.
